Rural Development

Majority of the activities of MJVS is presently concentrated in Dhariyawad, Bhinder, Kherwada, Banswara, Dungarpur,Chittorgarh, A Dist. of Rajasthan. The organization plans to initiate development work in other districts of Rajasthan and also extend its support to voluntary movement in adjoining tribal dominated regions of other districts in rajasthan.

The area is known for its semi arid to sub humid climatic with extreme variations. Majority of the activities of the organization are presently concentrated in Bhinder, Dhriwad, Kherwara, Sagwara and Gungerpur & Girva blocks of Udaipur district. The area is characterized by undulating uplands with high slopes carved out into separate barren hillocks and valleys where villages are scattered in small hamlets.

The climate is semi arid with an average rainfall of 600 mm to 1100 mm, precipitating in an average of 25 to 35 rainy days spread over in the four months of monsoon. The maximum temperature is 48ºC during the months of May-June and minimum of 8º C in the winter.

Schedule Tribes (STs), Schedule Casts (SCs), and OBC constitute most population of the operational area, who depend on agriculture and allied activities for sustaining their livelihood. Degradation of the natural resources is an acute problem in this area. Issues such as soil erosion, low soil fertility, water scarcity and exploitation of natural resources are the other major concerns. People are overloaded with crisis, and the problems are intensifying on a regular basis.

As far as education is concerned, lack of basic awareness and absence of necessary linkages between the different levels of education is main drawback. The Government has also not been able to provide adequate residential education facilities, thus drop out rate is very high especially among girl children. The discrimination for education between males and females child is very common. Although there are primary schools in villages, enrollment of girls is very low owing to ignorance of parents and societal pressures.
